PUBLIC USE RIVER TRAIL YURT: INFORMATION & POLICIES

Nature Center Member Price: $55.00 per day from 2pm to noon of the following day.
Non Member Price: $65.00 per day from 2pm to noon of the following day.
The price includes parking at the Nature Center for that same time period for up to four cars.  Maximum number of persons allowed in yurt: 4.  No camping (additional tents) permitted in the yurt location.

Staying at the yurt is SIMILAR TO CAMPING.   This is a backcountry, rustic experience.  The yurt is checked regularly, but not daily by volunteers of the non-profit Friends group.  Please pack out EVERYTHING you bring in and andleave a clean site so that the next user has a pleasant experience.

Description: Sleeps up to 4 persons — 2 on a plywood bunkbed and 2 on wood floor. The yurt includes a wood stove and firewood (stacked in a woodshed a short walk from the yurt); 2 chairs and table; bear proof container (outside, a short walk from the yurt); and deck. The latrine is located below the cabin. Nearby water source available (Eagle River), but the water should be purified before drinking.

Location and access: Approximately 1.5 miles from the Nature Center along the Albert Loop Trail to Eagle River then a short distance on a designated trail or along the river in the winter months when the river is frozen. The yurt is accessible by foot year round. No bicycles or motorized vehicles are allowed. Please note that there is a short climb (15 feet) to the yurt from the river/trail.

The yurt is secured by a lock box located to the left of the door and is accessible only by permit holders with a valid number. This number is the combination to the lock and your only access into the yurt. Please take along this receipt and remember your number. This number is regularly changed to ensure security. To gain access to the yurt, individually press each number (numbers correspond with roman numerals on lock, for example: II = 2, IV = 4), press button and lift to reveal key inside.  To return key to the box you must enter the combination and repeat the process.

Reservation policies:

  1. Reservations may be made up to one year in advance of the first day of intended use. Payment in full must be received to reserve the use of the yurt. Payment may be made in person(cash, check or credit) or by phone with a credit card (Visa/Mastercard only). When paying by check or money order it should be made out to "Eagle River Nature Center" or "ERNC".  No refunds for cancellations and no date changes are allowed. User receives a permit (receipt with reservation #/lock combination) at time of payment along with a map and directions and parking pass for the same time period.
  2. The yurt may be occupied from 2pm of the day reserved to noon the following day. The yurt may not be reserved by the same party for more than 7 consecutive nights. The yurt may be used for non-commercial purposes only, on a first-come, first-served basis.

POLICIES:

  1. It is unlawful to use the yurt without a paid reservation/permit.
  2. It is unlawful to cut standing or live trees in the area. Firewood is provided just below the yurt. Only dead or down wood may be used for fire.  Please use firewood sparingly to conserve precious resources.
  3. Littering is illegal. Please pack out what you pack in.
  4. The discharge of explosive devices, such as fireworks, is strictly prohibited within the park.
  5. Yurt users are responsible for any damage to the cabin, associated facilities, or park resources. Please report any damages you may find to the Eagle River Nature Center.
  6. During bear season, management highly recommends that food be stored in a nearby bear-proof container when not in use. When cooking inside the yurt, please clean all surfaces when you are finished to avoid unnecessary bear intrusions. Remember that food smells will attract bears, so please take precautions to keep the yurt clean.
