ASTRONOMY SERIES
SEEING THROUGH TELESCOPES: Getting the most out of your telescope presented by Christopher Erickson

Join our astronomers for this popular indoor and outdoor sky viewing program. The astronomy programs will be offered every first and third Friday of the month through April, starting at 7pm. Bring your own binoculars or telescopes to share and dress warmly. Due to space constraints, this program cannot accommodate large groups. Children can earn their Junior Astronomer Certificate after attending 6 programs and completing "Star Notes". Please complete a punch card at the front desk. Free program; $5 parking for non-members.

Junior Naturalist Program (grades K-6)

Many animals use their sense of smell to hunt, find food, and lots of other things. Pick a secret animal card then follow your nose to activities and clues to see if you can find out what Alaskan animal you are. Free program; $5 parking for non-members.

FEEDING THE BIRDS
Children's Craft Program (Free but registration required)

Join our naturalist to learn what birds live here in winter, what they look like, how their beaks work and what they eat. We'll learn to make winter treats for the birds at the Nature Center and make enough treats for you to take to the birds at your home, too. Please register at 694-2108. Free program, $5 parking for non-members.

MOONLIGHT HIKE & HOTDOG ROAST ON ALBERT LOOP TRAIL

Join volunteers Bob and Ann Fisher for a 3-mile round trip hike and enjoy a warm fire and hotdog roast. Hikers should be in good shape, but may be beginners. Hikers are advised to bring a daypack, headlamp or flashlight, water, wind/snow clothing and warm layers. Snowshoes and/or ice cleats may be needed. Call the Nature Center for trail conditions. The hike is limited to the first 12 people (at least 18 years old) who register by calling 694-2108. Please provide a contact phone number and email address at the time of registration.

Sunday, November 25, 2007, 11am-1pm           AVALANCHE AWARENESS                                  Special Program – Special Time                    Blaine Smith conducts this special 2-hour introductory class on avalanche awareness at the Eagle River Nature Center . Blaine began his study of avalanches in 1985 and has worked for the Alaska Avalanche School since 1991. He is a professional member of the American Avalanche Association (AAA) and AAA Certified Avalanche Instructor.  In addition to his dynamic teaching style and avalanche expertise, Blaine brings a long history of working, guiding, and teaching in the outdoors. In 1987 he began his career as an outdoor educator and guide and has since worked for the University of Alaska, Alaska Pacific University, Alaska Denali Guiding, Alaska Mountain Safety Center , and the Alaska Mountaineering School , among others.   Free program; parking for non-members is $5.
